4 Ways to Plan for the New Year
January first is not just another day in the calendar, it marks the rebutting of our life’s routines. A new year is a time for new beginnings, new opportunities, and fresh starts. Every year, I make new year resolutions which I either stick to for about 2 weeks or don’t abide by at all. It’s critical for me to start off 2017 on the right foot so that I can set the tone for my new adult life. So here are my tips on how to effectively plan for the new year:
1. Start planning now
This should be common sense, but if you haven’t already started working towards something you want to accomplish in 2017, then you’re not serious [side eye emoji]. Start planning your travel, new job, school applications and healthy style now. Don’t wait until the new year has begun, because by then, you will already be behind.
2. Create a schedule
Make your big goals more tangible by putting them into your daily schedule, then give them deadlines. Creating a schedule helps you incorporate your big life changes into your everyday life. If you plan on gaining or losing 50 pounds, create a daily plan for how you will reach that goal. Give each task on your to do list a deadline in order to avoid procrastinating. Make a short list of items that you plan to accomplish each day, which will get you one step closer to your goal.
3. Tell a friend
Humans are social beings, and social pressure is one of our strongest driving forces. (Research shows that cockroaches run faster in the presence of other cockroaches. lol) When you invite other people into your life plans, they will keep you accountable. The simple act of telling someone (that you trust) your plans, gives you a subconscious push to complete it. You are not an island, and cannot successfully accomplish things on your own. So, attend group work out sessions, join a study group, meet up with other creatives or collaborate on a project.
4. Stay organized and Focused
I use my google calendar and a physical planner to keep me on track. I recommend that you figure out a way to keep yourself organized. I also love to write things down (Duh, I sell journals). I write down any idea that crosses my mind so that I don’t forget it. Writing things down and giving myself deadlines helps me stay organized. Figure out what works for you and start getting organized.
I hope this helps. Comment below and let me know what you plan on accomplishing in the new year! Stay original loves.
