Do Not Give up on Your Dreams

Do Not Give up on Your Dreams

I believe that giving up on your dreams is a slow process that happens through doubting yourself. You don't wake up one morning and just throw your bomb ideas out the window and decide to stop pursuing something. Giving up on your dreams is more about slowly compromising, second guessing your abilities, then eventually you settle for something less. Giving up on your dreams begins when you stop aiming for excellence or stop producing high-quality content. If you truly believe in yourself and have internalized those dreams, then you won't give up on them.

I have written eleven books, but each time I think, ‘uh oh, they’re going to find out now. I’ve run a game on everybody, and they’re going to find me out’.
— Maya Angelou

I'm writing this for myself because I have plans to do big things that scare me, but I know God has placed them in my heart for a reason. Multiple people have told me that they see me as a public speaker or a writer which is confirmation of things I've always wanted to me. But as soon as I get excited about working on those dreams, I begin to doubt myself and shy away from the work that's required to achieve that. I'm a working progress, and I want us all to work towards being confident in our pursuits of our dreams.

Tips on how to NOT give up on your dreams:

Recognize your imposter syndrome, then work through it.

Imposter Syndrom - is a concept describing high-achieving individuals and creatives, who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud". (google)

It is natural to have imposter syndrome, the key is to work through it and trust in your work.

Be consistent

Inconsistency is the easiest way to loose traction and easily leads to slowly giving up. Keep working on your craft and you will only improve and get closer to your goals.

Surround yourself with people who support you

I'm blessed to have many creative friends who support me and collaborate with me, and they encourage me to keep going. Create a community that you can learn from, and that build you up.

Don't despise your small beginnings

Keep your end goal in mind when you are working on the little things. Don't get discouraged by your small beginning, but work towards your big dreams.

I hope this encourages you.
