Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I impart my advice on how to be bold and be original. Hope you are encouraged!

Yinka, Where is Your Huzband?

Yinka, Where is Your Huzband?

Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband is a cute romance comedy written by Lizzie Camilla Blackburn. It’s a funny but accurate depiction of what firstborn Nigerian daughters go through when they are above the age of 30 and unmarried. The main character, Yinka, is a Yoruba woman who is single and in this predicament. The pressure to get married is even worse for Yinka because her younger sister and close cousin are already married with children.

This lighthearted read touched on a few serious topics, such as cultural pressure, family dynamics, colorism, and dating. There’s also a deeper message in here about our culture placing women’s worth and value in their marital status. As a Nigerian immigrant in the U.S., I enjoy reading books referencing my culture, food, mannerisms, and embarrassing moments. Yinka is a first-generation Nigerian immigrant living in the UK who feels pressured to act more Nigerian than she is. Not being herself exposes some insecurities but also allows her to find true love with the man who loves her just as she is. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend you check it out, too.
