“Keeping you’re body pure before the Lord, being kind and loving, is so much more important than how you look”
I got the opportunity to ask Canden a few questions about female identity after a poetry show. Here are her responses;
Me: For me personally, whenever someone compliments my body, it's very hard to not love that, and remember that my looks aren't everything. What is your opinion on female Identity?
Canden: I think it's important as women to remember why we were created. We were created to be nurturers and to be loving, to channel everything that God wants to give to the world and to be helpers.
I think women need to find value in their identity. If you stand on your looks alone, you will always be disappointed.
Me: What is your advice to young girls who are growing up in a society where public appearance on social media is so important? How do we live in a way that isn't all about what looks good to other people?
Canden: It can be hard, nowadays because there's so many people making millions of off how they look. There's going to come a time when I get old, and I want to be able to speak to the Lord and say "wow, I brought people closer to you, I fed the poor, I loved people", you know what I'm saying? Stuff that's important, that's going to last longer than "Oh you're pretty".
I think so much emphasis is being put on one thing and we're getting lost, and it's not as important as we're making it, then we're neglecting to take care of other things. You're not going to be beautiful everyday of your life.
One thing I want to say to young girls is that you should follow someone you want to be like 10 years down the road, not just right now.
