Tell us about yourself

Okay so name is Shaé and I'm a singer/songwriter from Watford. I'm 21 years old and I've been singing since I was a toddler. I've always loved writing and I started to develop that from like 10/11years old, starting with poetry and spoken word, then progressing to rap, then gradually finding comfort in my placements with singing and now I just combine everything. So yeah that's me.

What inspired your new project "Big Mistake" ?

If I'm honest I was very frustrated when I wrote that song. I've personally experienced unfair treatment a couple times in this industry due to being a woman and it's the most frustrating thing. I'm one of so many that go through it and most just stay silent because it's the 'way of the industry'. I'm blessed enough to be able to speak for the people through my gift, so I wrote 'Big Mistake' to shed light on that issue. This song is a lot more aggressive than my usual tone, because it's truthful to my feelings surrounding this issue. I won't be silenced anymore.

Why is it important for you to empower other women?

Because we're a sisterhood. It's a timeless movement that was necessary 50 years ago and is still necessary today. We conceive the future so we all need to respect & protect that.

What changes would you like to see regarding the female representation in the music industry?

More women at the forefront, black women in particular. I would like to see women given the recognition they deserve, genuinely.

What advice would you give to young singers who are scared to pursue their musical career?

No one wants your visionary as much as you do. Go make it happen. Prove to everyone, and more importantly to yourself, that you can do it. Because you can. The only thing that legends have over me & you right now is time. They've had time to become legendary. Give me 25 years of consistent grind and I promise you I'll be legendary too. You get me? I can, you can.

What makes you original?

I believe this interview has answered that :)
